Mindez, who was once a strong figure in US foreign policy, was convicted of selling influence over the Egyptian government.
Robert Menendes, a former Senate member of the United States, who represents New Jersey, has obtained a 11 -year prison sentence for bribery plans that included receiving gold bars in exchange for on behalf of Egypt.
On Wednesday, in a sad certificate, Mindez told the Manhattan Federal Court that he had lost everything he loved as a result of corruption charges, except for his wife’s support.
“For a person who spent his entire life in public service, every day I wake up is a punishment,” said Mindez, a democratic.

Mindez, 71, served 18 years old in the Senate-and 13 years old in the House of Representatives-before his political career stopped in 2024.
In August, amid the scandal of the corruption case, he resigned. The decision came a month after being convicted of corruption of 16 felony.
“Mindez, who swore an oath to represent the United States and the state of New Jersey, instead put his high office for sale in exchange for this treasure of bribes.” They requested a 15 -year prison sentence.
