On Monday, European leaders warned that US President Donald Trump’s threat to expand the scope of customs tariffs to the European Union has risked the stopping of a trade war that would cause economic harm on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.
“Then laughing on the side is China,” said European Union Foreign Policy Head, Kaja Calas.
“We are very intertwined. We need America, and America also needs us.”
European Union diplomats say 27 countries are preparing for potential responses, but they need to know what Trump’s next step is before anything. They said that the goal now is to avoid pouring fuel over the fire.
Trump told 27 countries from the European Union that it was in the queue, after his decision to impose a comprehensive tariff on Mexico, Canada and China.
“This will definitely happen with the European Union. I can tell you that they have really benefited from us,” Trump told reporters on Sunday.
“They do not take our cars, and do not take our agricultural products. They take almost nothing and take everything from them.”
The federal government has announced 25 percent revenge definitions on American goods – from juice to devices and cars – after President Donald Trump continued his identification threats. The trade war has urged people to buy Canadian because the scope of economic repercussions is expected to be seen.
German Chancellor Olaf Schools hit a more cautious tone, urged the European Union and the United States to work together.
“It is clear that, as a strong economic zone, we can form our future and respond to customs tariff policies … but the perspective and the goal must be that things lead to cooperation,” he said.
The conservative opposition leader in Germany, Fredchich Mirz, who could become a consultant after the elections on February 23, late Sunday that the customs tariff may risk counterproductive.
“Trump will now realize that the customs tariff he imposes will not be paid by those who import to America. Instead, consumers in America will have to.”

French Central Bank, Francois Felieroy de Galhao, said that Trump’s tariff was “very brutal” and would be especially hit by the auto sector.
“Everyone loses this type of protectionist trade war,” Radio Radio told Radio.
On Monday, stocks in European auto makers fell on concerns about the impact of definitions.
In his complaints about the trade balance with the European Union, Trump focused on the trade of goods alone.
The European Union has constantly exported more goods to the United States, which it imported, and the US merchandise trade deficit reached 155.8 billion euros (159.5 billion US dollars) in 2023, according to Eurostat data.
However, in services, the United States has a surplus of import exports with the European Union of 104 billion euros ($ 106.7 billion) in 2023, according to Eurostat.
Trump said on Sunday that although Britain was “out of the line” when it came to trade, he thought he might be able to avoid definitions, adding from the defect: “I think one can put.”
“They are the first days and what I want to see is strong commercial relations, and in the discussions I had with President Trump, this is what I focused on,” British Prime Minister Kerr will pass to reporters at the weekend.
The United States is the largest commercial partner in Britain as one country, although the European Union is the largest as a mass. Less than a third of Britain’s trade with the United States is present in the goods, which may face a tariff, with the rest consisting of services.
Starmer was also in Brussels, hoping to improve relations with the European Union after Britain’s departure from the European Union, which resulted in the 2016 referendum, hoped that it would agree to cancel some red trade with European allies.
