Russia and Belarus will remain freezing from the International ECC competitions during the 2025-26 season.
On Tuesday, IIHF decision covers all the world championships and winter games next year in Italy, although the International Olympic Committee has the final statement.
IIHF said: “It is not safe after the reintegration of the national teams and the Russian club and the evaporation,” because “the current security conditions do not allow the necessary requirements to organize the championships that guarantee the safety of everyone.”
The IIHF Council said it would evaluate the case in May 2026.
The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are scheduled to be held from 6 to 22 February in Milan and Courtina.
Russia, in the former army as the Soviet Union or the unified team, won the Olympic gold nine times. Russia won silver at the Beijing Olympics 2022, just weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine. Russia and Belarus have been banned from the international hockey championships of ice since then.
The International Olympic Committee in 2023, Russian athletes and Green Blina participating in international events after meeting some circumstances, but they remained banned from the team’s events.
