Recently, there have been a group of suspected sabotage incidents in the Baltic Sea in which the vital infrastructure, including energy and gas, was affected.
The former Soviet countries, which joined the European Union and NATO in 2004, were considered a “energy island” within the European bloc, but were working hard to connect their systems.
They were quick to stop buying Russian energy after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, but their energy networks are still connected to Russia and Belarus on a network controlled by Moscow.
Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia will permanently separate from the Russian power network tomorrow.
