A source close to the case said on Saturday that a French police officer was ordered to pay 1,000 euros, or nearly $ 1,000 after he described a woman who filed a complaint of sexual assault as a “prostitute.”
If anger in France, a 34 -year -old woman filed a complaint at the Paris Police Station in February 2022, saying that she was attacked in the street after several drinks in one night.
A male police officer later called her to ask her to return and end the papers. After leaving a message – believing that he commented – began insulting her, describing her as a “prostitute” three times.
The case caused discontent with the activists, who said it reflects the number of police officers who were treated Victims of sexual violence.
French statistics showed in 2017 that more than 80,000 adult women face rape or attempt to rape every year in the country, but only 10 % filed a complaint, according to Associated Press.
But like many countries around the world, #Metoo has led social and government changes in recent years. The number of sexual violence has doubled more than 2016 to 2023, according to the French newspaper the world.
In a rare comment, the then Minister of Interior in France, Gerald Darmanin, said that the 33 -year -old officer should be expelled.
The policeman was accused of “insulting in general because of sex.” But a French court brought out a criminal responsibility policeman in January 2024. During the trial, the officer apologized and said he had to beg in Darmanin to keep his job.
Then the woman appealed the decision, and asked the judicial authorities to recognize the officer’s misconduct.
On January 30, the Paris Appeal Court sided with the woman and said that the policeman should pay her 1,000 euros, according to a copy of the ruling obtained by Agence France -Presse.
The police officer has repeatedly apologized for his statements, but he insisted that they were just an expression of his inconvenience in procedural violations.
In its decision, the court found that “the term” La Pute “(the prostitute) is not abusive several times, and, in light of the context, was aimed at (the plaintiff) because of its gender.”
Women’s lawyer, Ary Alami, said it is necessary to “go along the way” to draw attention to the bias “towards the victims of sexual and sexual violence and towards the victims of the police officers.”
Police officer lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
In the latest state of sexual violence in the country, the former husband Gisèle PelicotThose who confessed to her anesthesia and rape over and over again for nearly a decade and invited dozens of other men to attack them as well, was convicted of strict rape.
Forty man Dominic Pelicot brought him to his home to attack his wife, and they were convicted as part of the same historical trial.
The Pelicot case sparked protests throughout France, and there was hope among some demonstrators that the issue could lead to changes in the controversial French laws that govern sexual approval.
