A federal judge in the Donald Trump administration has immediately raised a bloc on payments to the Institute of Medical Research in the United States, and the abolition of billions of dollars in financing clean energy projects.
On Monday, John McConnell reiterated that the White House’s attempt to freeze federal funds was “probably unconstitutional” and said that many states showed evidence that the Trump administration continues to withhold some money in violation of a previous health order.
This is the latest in a series of legal strikes on the early policy efforts of the administration. During the weekend, a federal judge in New York prevented the envoys from the Ministry of Government Efficiency, which is led by Elon Musk (DOGE) and politicians appointed from entering the sensitive payments system in the treasury and one million dollars.
In a separate case on Friday, another judge issued a temporary restriction that prevents the US Agency for International Development from putting thousands of employees on vacation, and ordered him to return those who were placed on leave. Six employees of the United States Agency for International Development sought from all over the world on Monday to obtain another order, claiming that they are still unable to reach the agency’s systems.
The court of last week also postponed a deadline for millions of civil service employees to accept the repetition package, which was originally determined last Thursday.
However, in a separate case on Monday, a federal judge rejected a request from the work groups of Doge representatives to prevent preventive from reaching the US Department of Labor.
In the case of payments, McConnell imposed a temporary temporary matter last month, on the pretext that the states have provided sufficient evidence that “they are likely to suffer from severe damage and cannot be repaired” if the court does not grant its request to prevent freezing funding.
“The plan of this reckless administration has already caused federal funding in chaos, confusion and conflict throughout our country,” said Letotia James, a New York Prosecutor, one of the states that brought the case, after McConnell imposed on the temporary matter.
The White House later canceled the freezing, but the states, including New York, made it clear that billions of dollars of federal financing are still being held, especially those related to green energy projects under the law of former President Joe Biden’s pioneering.
On Monday, James joined 21 other state lawyers in a separate lawsuit against the Trump administration for trying to reduce grant financing for universities and research institutions throughout the country.
The case focuses on the new directives issued by the National Health Institutes, which it said will reduce “indirect” support for such institutions to 15 percent of the current average of 27 percent. Funding covers the administrative costs of research projects.
James said this step “can force scientists to close their life -saving research on cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, addiction, infectious diseases and more.”
The National Health Institutes said that “it was necessary to ensure that the largest possible number of funds is heading towards direct scientific research costs instead of administrative general expenditures.” But the academic community has warned that the cuts would harm research and scientific progress, as well as disrupt laboratory maintenance.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
