Does Amnesty International make us stupid?

Researchers from Microsoft University and Carnegie Mellon I recently published a study Considering how AI is used in work affects critical thinking skills.

“Used incorrectly, technologies can deteriorate the cognitive colleges that must be preserved,” the paper states.

When people depend on artificial intelligence at work, their effort turns towards checking that artificial intelligence response is good enough to use it, rather than using high critical thinking skills such as creating, evaluating and analyzing information. The paper says that human beings only interfere when artificial intelligence responses are not enough, so the workers are deprived of “routine opportunities to exercise their rule and enhance their cognitive muscles, which leaves them atrophy and is not ready when exceptions arise.”

In other words, when we rely a lot on artificial intelligence to think for us, we get worse to solve problems ourselves when artificial intelligence fails.

In this study, which included 319 people, they reported the use of the Trucific I intelligence at least once a week at work, the respondents were asked to share three examples of how they used an artificial intelligence agency, for example); Information (search for a topic or summarize a long article); The advice (requesting or submitting a scheme of current data). After that, they were asked if they were practicing critical thinking skills when doing the task, and if the use of obstetric intelligence makes them use more or less effort to think cash. For every task mentioned by the respondents, they were also asked to share their confidence in itself, and in obstetric artificial intelligence, and in their ability to assess the outputs of artificial intelligence.

About 36 % of the participants reported that they used critical thinking skills to alleviate the possible negative results of the use of artificial intelligence. One of the participants said she used ChatGPT to write a performance review, but artificial intelligence was checked for fear that she would be able to make something that he would suspend by mistake. Another respondent stated that he had to edit emails that were created from artificial intelligence and which he would send to his boss-whose culture focuses more on the hierarchical and age-so that Paux PAS does not commit. In many cases, the participants have verified the responses created by artificial intelligence with searches on the Internet in general from resources such as YouTube and Wikipedia, and perhaps defeating the purpose of using artificial intelligence in the first place.

In order for workers to compensate for deficiencies in artificial intelligence, they must understand how these shortcomings occur. But not all participants were aware of the limits of artificial intelligence.

“The potential damage to GENAI responses can stimulate cash thinking, but only if the user is aware of such damage,” says the paper.

In fact, the study found that the participants who reported confidence in artificial intelligence used a less critical thinking effort than those who reported confidence in their capabilities.

While researchers have surrounded the saying that the tools of obstetric intelligence make you stupid, the study shows that relying on the tools of obstetric intelligence can weaken our ability to solve independent problems.
