Twelve civilians die in a Russian missile attack on Ukraine, targeting residential buildings and energy infrastructure.
At least 12 people were killed after Russia fired a barrage of drones and missiles at Ukraine, which targeted residential buildings as well as energy infrastructure.
On Saturday, Ukraine Air Force said that Russia fired 123 drones and more than 40 missiles. She said she was able to shoot down 56 drones and redirect 61, without providing numbers about the number of missiles that were intercepted.
Ukraine emergency services said that a missile hit a residential building in downtown Boltava, about 120 km (75 miles) from the border, killing eight people, including a child, and wounded 17.
About 18 buildings, kindergarten and energy structure was damaged.
In the northeastern city of Kharkif, the mayor said that the woman was killed and that four people were injured in a drone.
Sumi regional officials also said that three police officers were killed while they were patrolling in a town during the attacks.
Ukraine President Volodimir Zelinski said the damage caused six regions – Kharkiv, Khmelinsky, Kiev, Odessa, Sumi, and Zaporesia.
“Russia attacked our cities last night using different types of weapons: missiles, drones and air bombs,” he wrote in the Telegram application. “Each such terrorist attack proves that we need more support in defending ourselves against Russian terrorism. Every air defense system, every anti -Misteen weapon, saves lives.”
The Russian Ministry of Defense said that its forces launched attacks targeting gas in Ukraine and other energy infrastructure, and they dropped 108 Ukrainian drones during the past 24 hours.
The fighting in a war did not appear for nearly three years, any signs of canceling the escalation, despite US President Donald Trump’s promise to create a ceasefire within “24 hours” from his post on January 20.
Trump and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, said they were ready to hold talks about the end of the war, but neither of the parties said when or how.
Trump was criticizing the billions that Washington spent arming Ukraine, while threatening to impose additional sanctions on Russia if Putin did not reach a “deal” to end the war.
Since March 2024, Russia has launched many missile attacks and drones on the energy sector in Ukraine and other energy infrastructure, which led to nearly half of the available generation capacity in the country and forcing power outages.
