Your guide to what the American elections mean 2024 for Washington and the world
China will impose a tariff on a group of American imports and has opened an investigation to combat monopoly in Google as it runs out of the imposition of Donald Trump on an additional 10 percent tariff on its exports.
China said that the customs tariff ranges between 10 and 15 percent on LNG, coal, coal, raw oil and agricultural equipment will be valid on February 10.
Beijing also said that it will impose a tariff on some auto exports from the United States and announced additional export controls on rare minerals.
The measures came when the new American definitions in China entered into force after midnight on Tuesday in Washington, where the second round of the trade war that started during the Trump’s first presidential term began.
Trump is expected to speak to Chinese President Xi Jinping in the coming days, which is in the hope that the leaders will be able to throw a deal to avoid a full trade war.
Trump has disturbed allies and investors by announcing the weekend from the huge fees in Canada, Mexico and China, which he accused of not doing enough to reduce migration, the flow of deadly fentian and its sects in the United States.
But the definitions against Canada and Mexico were delayed a month after the last minute talks on Monday between Trump, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Mexican President Claudia Shinbom.
The Hang Kong Index in Hang Sings rose by 3.3 percent on Tuesday before climbing some of its gains after China’s revenge, to exchange 2.3 percent.
Renminbi abroad lost previous gains and 0.1 percent weakening against the dollar to 7.32 yuan.
Brent raw prices, the international oil standard, decreased by 0.7 percent to $ 75.41 a barrel. West Texas, the American standard, decreased by 1.8 percent to $ 71.90 a barrel. Futures of natural gas decreased by 2.3 percent to $ 3.274 per British thermal unit.
The Chinese Finance Ministry said that the American definitions violated the rules of the World Trade Organization. The Ministry of Finance said: “It is not only not useful in solving its own problems, but it also undermines natural economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States.”
He added that American coal exports and elderly carriers will face a 15 percent tariff, while crude oil, agricultural machines, cars and reception will get a 10 percent tariff.
China was the second largest US coal buyer in the first three quarters of 2024, which represents 10.9 percent of the total coal export and abandonment of India only, according to US Energy Information Management data.
US natural gas exports to China represent 2.9 percent of total natural gas exports from January to November 2024, according to environmental impact assessment numbers.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment.
China’s anti -monopoly organizer announced on Tuesday an investigation of Google due to suspected violations of the anti -pregnancy laws.
While the search engine is banned in China, along with most of the work of the parent company Alphabet, the United States Group is a Chinese companies that are declared abroad. Chinese audio makers also use its Android operating system.
Alphabet does not explode its revenues from China, but the Asia Pacific region contributed 17 percent of sales in 2023.
Meanwhile, the China Ministry of Commerce said it imposes export controls on Tungstin and “25 rare metal products and technologies such as PARatungstate”, effectively effectively.
The Ministry of Commerce also put the PVH group, an American clothing maker with its commercial brands, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger, in the “unreliable entities list” in China, a black national security list.
The move was followed by an investigation by China in PVH for alleged discrimination against cotton from the Chinese western Shinjiang region, where Beijing is accused of human rights violations, including forced work.
The ministry said it was also adding the American biotechnology group ILUMINA to the “Sovereignty, Security and Development Interests” list.
While there was some optimism for an agreement in the coming days to alleviate commercial tensions, economists were doubtful.
“It seems that the (A) agreement to avoid definitions is limited,” said Robin Xing, Chinese chief economist in Morgan Stanley. “Paths to cancel the escalation.. They remain tight and will require great concessions from both sides.”
