Gaza City, Palestine – Ayat Hasuna thin with a pale face. Her eyes are red and her voice is full of sadness.

She had a husband, Abdullah, and two children, Hamza, four -year -old, and Ragad, two years old. But when she returned with hundreds of thousands of other Palestinians to northern Gaza, after months of displacement in the south of the pocket, she was traveling alone.

Abdullah, Hamza and Ragad were killed in an Israeli attack on August 9, while they were preparing for one day to the beach, an attempt to escape the horrors of the daily war.

Aya described a powerful explosion and smoke, then her children lie dead on the floor with blood flowing from their heads.

Abdullah, who went earlier to buy ingredients for a cake and some snacks of the beach, also died.

“Since that time, I have been trying to be strong. Aya said:” I am trying to withstand separation. “But everything around me reminds me.”

Her trip to the Asaftawi neighborhood in Gaza City last week, as part of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, was many of these painful reminders. Abdullah was desperate to return home. He has already put the clothes he was wearing for the trip. She took her husband’s clothes with her in her long career north, as well as her children. And he walked alone.

“Sadness was eating in my heart,” said Aya. “Sometimes I cried. I looked at the families walking together, mother, father and children. For me, I was alone without any of them.”

Aya arrived at her family’s home and reunited with her mother, but she is not sure of the period that took the trip. Her mind was busy with heart pain from the losses that she still chases.

Soon after, she decided to go and see all the rest of her home, which was destroyed during the war. While she searched in the rubble for any of their old property to preserve memories, she found herself imagining the search for her missing loved ones, and finally she finds them again.

“What can I do? This is my destiny.”

The important son

Many of those who returned to northern Gaza had to pass the same pain, who returned home, but without their loved ones.

The Israeli war on Gaza has killed more than 6,1700 Palestinians, including more than 17,400 children.

The son of Shapir’s jewels, Wilde, was one of the dead. They fled Gaza City together at the beginning of the war, and they moved to Rafah, in the far south of the tape.

Wilde was the eldest son Jawaher. He was twenty -six years old and “obedient and affectionate.” It was this love for his mother and his family who left Walid the family tent at his Rafah at the end of Ramadan in April last year, in an attempt to find work to alleviate the famine -like conditions in the family.

Jawaher said: “He found work with one of his friends near Khan Yunis,” Jawaher said. “He promised to return with okra for cooking.”

But Wilde is no longer. Jawaher was told that he was shot by the Israeli army in Khan Yunis.

The month passed heavily to the heart of jewels. She says she lost the ability to speak. Instead, on her mind, she photographed Walid, imagining his return.

The jewels returned to the north with the rest of her family. But before leaving, it would have taken a last station to visit the tomb of Walid.

“I cried on Walid,” said Jawaher. “How will I return without him? How will my daughters and my grandchildren meet in Gaza City without a newborn, this gentle young man, this companion.”
