Irish boxer John Cony died a week after the battle of the Celtic title in the weight of the nomads in the Ulster Hall in Belfast.
Cony, 28, stopped in the ninth round of his battle against Wilcheman Nathan Hadiz on February 1 and was taken to the hospital, where he underwent surgery in the brain bleeding and was accepted intensively.
MHD promoters announced on Saturday that he passed away.
“Through complete destruction, we must announce that after a week of fighting for his life, John Cony unfortunately died.”
“The Master, Mrs. Kony and his fiancée, Emalene, would like to thank the employees at the Royal Belfast Victoria Hospital who worked tirelessly to save John’s life and everyone who sent support messages and prayers.
“He was a beloved son, brother, and loved partner and it will all take life to forget how distinguished.
CONEY won the Celtic Super-Fatheright title by winning in the first round over Liam Gaynor in Dublin in November 2023, a part of the same exhibition that witnessed Katie Taylor’s defeat CHANTELLE CAMERON by majority decision.
He spent a year out of the circuit due to a hand injury, but he returned to the defeat of Tambella Mahasusi in the York Hall in October, before his battle again last week.
