If we discover foreigners first, what are the signs of intelligence they will see?

After discovering any evidence of life outside the planet, it is difficult to look at the types of organisms that may be present until after our telescope matches. Could there be an Earth -like planet with human -like organisms and technology that is looking for us enthusiastically as we are looking for?

Although a planet has life and technology similar to our lives may be rare, studying how to discover these organisms can help develop our search for our smart life. As such, a team of researchers led the search for the Sofia Sheikh Institute at the Earth Institute of Intelligence (SETI), how the “twin Earth” can discover evidence of our planet, given our level of modern technology. Their theoretical studies were published in Monday Astronomical magazine.

“One of the most satisfied aspects of this work was to use Seti as a cosmic mirror. How did the Earth look like the rest of the galaxy? How can our current effects be understood on our planet?” The Sheikh said at the City Institute statement. “While we cannot, of course, we cannot know the answer, this work allowed us to extrapolate and imagine what we may assume that if we discover a planet, for example, high concentrations of pollutants in their atmosphere.”

The Sheikh and its team studied the techniques of the Earth: potential signs of smart life with advanced technology, such as radio signals, artificial light, and/or nitrogen dioxide emissions. In fact, our current or coming tools soon, including HWO, have the ability to detect nitrogen dioxide emissions up to 5.7 light -years, which is away from the nearest star of the Earth after the sun. However, the researchers revealed that strong radio signals such as those that were previously emitted by the ARCIBO Observatory now collected are the most aware of the land-the land-can be discovered significantly up to 12,000 light years.

“Our goal in this project was to return SETI to” to the ground “for a moment and think about our place today with Earth’s techniques and detection capabilities on Earth,” said Messi Huston of the University of California, a co -author. From the study. “In SETI, we should never assume that life and other technology will be just like us, but determining what it means to” for us “can help in setting searches in SETI in its right perspective.”

In the virtual scenario, the closer the strange civilization to Earth, the more techniques it discovers – often pick up multiple signals at the same time. In addition to radio signals and nitrogen dioxide emissions, they will eventually notice other human -making signatures such as satellites, laser, heat and city lights.

“We have a multi -length constellation of technology, although more constellation has become visible whenever the observer approaches,” the researchers wrote in the study. The Sheikh team claims to be the first to study technology collectively, not individually.

Although they admit that there is likely that there is no earthly twin there, our technology analysis can know how to understand the evidence of life, and as a result, how we are looking for it outside our planet.
