China imposed a retaliatory tariff on the United States, reaching about $ 14 billion in goods and hoped that a trade war will be avoided between the two largest economies in the world.

Beijing announced the customs tariff last week in response to an American decision to impose an additional tax on Chinese products, which US President Donald Trump described as “Sulfo inauguration” in a renewal attack against China.

Compared to the American -collar definitions, Chinese measures – targeting American exports of liquefied natural gas, coal, raw oil and agricultural equipment, as well as some car commodities that range from 10 percent to 15 percent – create a space for negotiations to avoid a wide commercial conflict.

However, by the deadline on Sunday, there was no news about a deal, and the Chinese embassy in Washington said that the definitions entered into force at 12.01 am Beijing time on Monday (11.01 am on Sunday in Washington, DC).

Beijing also announced the achievement of the fight against Google, which was banned the search engine in China and Illumina, an American biotechnology company. The black list was included in the American clothing signs, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilviger.

China has confirmed its control of the rare Earth supply chain by restricting exports to the United States of five critical minerals used in defense -related industries, solar panels, electric car batteries and other green energy products. China produces about 60 percent of the world’s rare lands and make up 90 percent of treatment in this industry.

Financial markets were initially hoped that Trump would follow the same playing book with China, as is the case with Canada and Mexico-which also announced the definitions, but then threw a month after the last minute talks with their leaders.

Trump suggested that he would talk to Chinese President Xi Jinping, but later said he “does not rush” to do so.

Experts suggested that Beijing had objected to Trump’s tactics, and announced the definitions just two days before they entered into force, and before approaching Chinese officials for negotiations.

Trump accused China, along with Mexico and Canada, of failing to reduce the flow of deadly opioid fentanel to the United States.

He also instructed the American Trade Representative to investigate the Chinese compliance of the first stage of the commercial deal he concluded with China in 2020 during his first term at the White House, which Beijing agreed to purchase more American products.

Analysts said that USTR is scheduled to report the results of the investigation on April 1, and then there may be another confrontation.

Beijing has taken some measures to stop the flow of ingredients for fentanel – known as the chemicals of SEF – since a summit in San Francisco in late 2023 that included US President Joe Biden and Shi. But the Trump administration accuses Beijing of supporting Chinese companies that manufacture spoys.

The American -Chinese trading relationship has formed the economies of the two countries in recent decades.

But China’s share of the total imports of the United States has decreased significantly since Trump presented the customs tariff during his first term, prompting some analysts to suggest that Beijing may be in the best position this time to bear the president’s measures.

“Many Chinese companies will be able to withstand a 10 percent tariff for their goods, given the country’s low export prices more than the prices of competing producers over the past two years.

He added: “If there is a tariff of only 10 percent on China and we left it, I think many investors are more comfortable.” “Of course, the great anxiety is that this is an introduction to greater commercial restrictions.”
