The US President says that other countries in the Middle East can be assigned to rebuild parts of the war pocket.
US President Donald Trump repeated his controversial proposal to control Gaza, saying he was committed to “buying and possessing” the war pocket.
Speaking to correspondents on Air Force One on Sunday, Trump said that Gaza should be considered a “large real estate location”, and other countries in the Middle East can be assigned to deal with its redevelopment.
“As we can rebuild it, we may give it to other countries in the Middle East to build sections of it, and Trump said on his way to New Orleans to attend Super Paul.
“But we are committed to possessing it, taking it, and making sure that Hamas is no longer. There is nothing to return to. The place is a demolition site.”
Trump also claimed that the displaced Palestinians prefer not to return to Gaza, despite his proposal, which prompted a violent reaction from Palestinian actors and many of the international community.
“If we can give them a home in a safer area – the only reason they are talking about to return to Gaza is that they have no alternative. When they have an alternative, they do not want to return to Gaza.”
Hamas, the Palestinian group that governs Gaza, has repeated its opposition to Trump’s proposal on Sunday, describing his recent “ridiculous” statements.
“Gaza is not a feature that can be purchased and sold, and it is an integral part of our occupied Palestinian land,” said Izat Rishq, a member of Hamas’s political office, in a joint statement in Telegram.
Al -Qari added: “Dealing with the Palestinian issue with the mentality of the real estate dealer is a recipe for failure.”
“Our Palestinian people will thwart all the plans of displacement and deportation. Gaza belongs to its people.”
Earlier on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised Trump’s proposal as a “revolutionary” and “creative” while he was addressing the cabinet meeting hours after his return from Washington, DC, where he had talks with the American president.
Trump was astonished by the Palestinians and the international community on Tuesday, through a proposal that Washington would take over Gaza as part of the bold redevelopment plan that he claimed could convert the pocket into the “Riviera for the Middle East”.
The US President doubled his proposal the next day, after officials of his administration tried to prove the reaction to the proposal by insisting that any resettlement of the Palestinians would be temporary.
Trump, a real estate developer before entering politics, provided some details about how to implement his proposal, which will face huge practical obstacles in addition to raising legal and moral concerns.
After he initially said he was open to the possibility of the US military to send to Gaza, Trump later said that American soldiers would not be needed to implement the plan.
Neighboring countries, such as Egypt and Jordan, rejected invitations to go to the displaced Palestinians, despite Trump’s proposal that they could be resettled in “other countries of importance with human hearts.”
On Sunday, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia condemned a proposal from Netanyahu using the Kingdom’s land to establish a Palestinian state.
“The Kingdom confirms that the Palestinian people have a right in their land, and that they are not infiltrators or migrants that can be expelled whenever the brutal Israeli occupation desires,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement. Trying to “turn attention” from the continuous “crimes” of Israel in Gaza.
